Originally thought to be the production of two sports cars, Toyota Executive Vice President Hiroki Nakajima recently confirmed that “there’s strong demand within the company for the Celica. So, is it okay to say this publicly? We’re doing the Celica!” Toyota has already produced a number of incredible sports car’s recently including the GR Supra, GR86 (Car & Driver 10Best Winner), GR Corolla, GR Yaris. This new Celica being revived from the old Celica (1970-2005) is expected to have a mid-engined 2.0-liter turbocharged engine with a 6-speed manual transmission, a rarity in modern sports cars. Toyota also has no plans to create an electric or hybrid variant of this car. We also believe that the car’s engine was secretly introduced at the Toyota Auto Salon, without anyone knowing what it was for. The engine is expected to have over 400 horsepower and the car itself could cost upwards of $70,000.
