Today, I flew Spirit from Philadelphia to Detroit. Our ticket was a measly $70, the lowest fare of any airline on that route. The only problem, nothing came included. Spirit calls themselves “The Home of the Bare Fare” meaning that when you buy a ticket with Spirit, all you get is that seat, and the seat isn’t great.
I saw multiple seats where you could easily remove the cushions, as they were attached with only Velcro. Some of the seatbelts were falling in between the seats cracks. The seats themselves, weren’t comfortable, but they weren’t uncomfortable. But one problem with the seats, is that the personal item of the person behind is rubbing up against your leg.
Spirit also takes there bag policy seriously. If you don’t have a carry on, they check any bags you have to see if they are small enough to fit in their range for a personal bag. Before we got on the plane, gate agents were watching like hawks, on the hunt for oversized bags. They were ready to force a woman and her baby to pay for the extra bag. Check in service also wasn’t great, they had only about 2 people running the whole system for the airport, while the person working wasn’t very friendly. The onboard service was ok, but you have to pay. As you do with everything on Spirit.
So, what do I have good to say? Well, the were very quick to get us in the air, and we had no delays. The pilots also gave us a tour of the cockpit, even though they had to get back in the air within the hour.
Conclusion
Spirit isn’t a horrible airline. It is actually pretty underrated. But, it still wouldn’t be my first choice. Thankfully, I was only onboard for little over an hour. If your flying Spirit, I would only ever fly to nearby locations, no flights over 3 or 4 hours. I would also not recommended if your flying by yourself. Also remember, that the price for a Spirit ticket can be deceiving, as any checked bags or carry-ons need to be played for. Which could bring your ticket price very close to the price of a ticket for an legacy carrier, which has much better FREE service. Overall: 3/10 stars.
One time I had a flight from LA to back home. We decided to try spirit because it was cheap ig. (this was the first and only time we did this) Our flight which was supposed to be at 8pm delayed to 9 then to 10 then to 11;15 then to 8 am then to 9:15 then to 10:30. No food or hotel vouchers either.

My mom tried to fly to Texas using Spirit not so long ago, and they just kept delaying. Then, they tried to refuse to give the money back (refundable tickets). It took ages to deal with them and I agree with Kevin, a 3/10 is a great score for them.
